Studying in the Netherlands The Netherlands offers ample possibilities for study at various levels (Bachelor, Master, and PhD). Also short duration courses are available in various institutes. For information on courses offered by the institutes please take a look at the web pages of the relevant institutes. Links to some of the important institutes are given below. Application forms can be also downloaded directly from the respective institutes. We would like to stress that NRN-NL provides information regarding this subject, but not responsible for arranging admission, fellowship, study visa or work permits.
Fellowships/study costs Dutch government provides fellowships under the program NFP. To check eligibility for obtaining a fellowship please look at the internet page of NUFFIC. As of 2005 the procedure is that the candidate applies first to the institute for his/her eligibility to a given course, and once a letter of academic acceptance is received from the concerned institute then only one can apply for NFP fellowship at the Dutch Consulate office. If you have your own funding source, of course you need only to apply for visa. Tuition fees generally range from 5000 to 12000 Euro per academic year (approx. 1000 Euro per month) depending on course and institution. Please take a look at the web page of NUFFIC to get idea on tuition fees for various courses. In addition to this, one has to take into account other costs such as health insurance and living costs. Accommodation and living costs are estimated at a minimum of about 700 Euro per month.
Working while studying In order to work part time while being a student, you will need a work permit. Once you get work permit it is allowed to work only ten hours a week which is not sufficient to cover the entire study period. So one should not plan to finance the study costs by part time job only. Moreover, please be informed that it is not so easy to find work. For more information please take a look at the web page Study in Holland.
