How large is Nepal?
Nepal is about four times the size of the Netherlands, but a large part of the country is uninhabited because of the high mountains. Nepal has a population of 27 million.

What does Nepal look like geographically?
Nepal is vast but narrow country with a length of 900 kms (from east to west) and a width 200 kms (from north to south). It consists of three parts: the Himalayas in the north, the central hills and the Terai lowlands in the south. The country is divided into 14 provinces and 75 districts. The capital Kathmandu is situated in the Bagmati zone.

What language is spoken in Nepal?
Nepal is a multi-national and multi-lingual country. There are more than 100 languages and dialects in Nepal. Nepali is the national language of Nepal. It is assumed that most Nepalese do speak and understand it.

What is the best season to travel in?
It is advisable to avoid the monsoon season because of the heavy rainfalls and high temperatures. The best traveling periods are October-November and February-April. However, basically you can travel to Nepal throughout the year, depending on the purpose of your journey.

Where do I get my visa for Nepal?
At the Nepalese consulate in the Netherlands, or after arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu

What vaccinations do I need?
It is recommended to get vaccinations against hepatitis A, diphtheria, tetanus, polio, and typhoid fever. Vaccinating against malaria depends on the season and the areas you plan to visit. Get some good advice from your local health authority or Travel Clinic. More info: Gezondopreis

Can I withdraw cash form ATM in Nepal?
Yes, in cities like Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur and Pokhara there are ATMs you can use. In Kathmandu there are several ATMs, all located in the vicinity of Thamel, the tourist area of Kathmandu. In Pokhara (Lakeside) there are two cash points. However, you should make sure that you are never totally dependent on cash points, because of possible (power) failures.

Where can I book a trekking in Nepal?
A trekking can be booked at one of the many (travel) trekking agencies in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

How can I travel around in Nepal?
The best way to tour Nepal is by bus (local or tourist). In and around the cities taxis are a fast and readily available option. You can also book a domestic flight to travel longer distances, but these are relatively very expensive.

How safe is Nepal for tourists?
Nepal is a safe country for tourists. In recent years, however, more and more violent actions have been carried out by Maoists; a communist group that has been trying to overthrow the monarchy and establish a people's republic through rebellion since 1996.

Is it safe for a woman to travel alone in Nepal?
Yes, a woman can very well travel alone in Nepal. However, people will look at you in surprise and often will not understand you. In their view, a woman by herself is very lonely and sad.
